Protein Purification Technician
Division: Kits and Reagents
Reports To: Managing Director, Product Division
Summary: The Protein Purification Technician develops and executes protein purification protocols, maintains purification systems equipment, and executes antiviral, neutralization and ELISA assays. responsibilities of the position include expression of monoclonal antibodies, interferons and other proteins in mammalian and bacterial systems and purification of these reagents. Routine maintenance of cell culture for characterizing the bioactivity of purified proteins is also required.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Purify monoclonal antibodies, interferons, and other proteins in support of the Production requirements
- Purify novel and existing catalog protein reagents using IEX, HIC, SEC, and affinity chromatography
- Maintain optimal performance of FPLC systems, chromatography columns, and purification equipment with routine Cleaning-In-Place (CIP) protocols
- Express interferons and other proteins in prokaryotic and eukaryotic cell systems
- Perform mammalian cell culture and execute antiviral and neutralization assays
- Execute cell and molecular biology techniques such as FACS, western blots and cell-based fluorescence assays
- Generate cell culture supernatants for purification of monoclonal antibodies and proteins
- Develop stable mammalian cell lines for production-scale protein expression
- Characterize protein bioactivity, purity, and concentration using cell-based assays, SDS-PAGE, UV/Vis Spectroscopy, and other binding assays
- Analyze data using Excel, Softmax, and Prism software
- Perform additional duties and/or other projects as required or assigned, including support for Manufacturing, Assay Services and Quality Control departments

Requirements:
- B.S. in biological sciences with 2 years academic, biotech, or pharmaceutical industry experience required
- Must be a highly responsible individual able to execute multiple efforts with high fidelity
- Hands-on involvement and problem-solving ability required
- Ability to effectively manage and interpret data required
- Must be highly attentive to detail and well organized
- High level of proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication skills necessary
- Positive attitude, solid work ethic and self-motivated individual desired
